London-based modern metal project MeK officially enters the scene today with “Unawaken,” its debut single and accompanying music video. Created by musician and producer Faust Perez, the project draws from contemporary metal, industrial electronics and cinematic soundscapes while introducing a conceptual universe concerned with perception, consciousness and the increasingly blurred relationship between humanity and its creations.

The single arrives following MeK's introductory TRANSMISSION campaign, a series of short audiovisual releases that reportedly generated more than 110,000 views across social platforms during its first two weeks. Each transmission offered another glimpse into the project's evolving mythology, building toward the release of “Unawaken” and the introduction of MeK // CONSTRUCT.

Questioning the Awakening

At the center of “Unawaken” sits a philosophical confrontation between two competing voices within the same mind. One wrestles with existence, searching for some greater purpose or divine justification for being alive. The other challenges that entire way of thinking, questioning why life should require a higher meaning before someone can embrace the experience of living it.

Even the title plays with that contradiction. Becoming “Unawaken” represents a departure from the certainty that sometimes follows a perceived spiritual or intellectual awakening. It suggests that discovering an answer can become another kind of confinement, particularly when certainty begins replacing curiosity.

It's an intriguing foundation for a metal release, especially considering how frequently heavy music explores mortality, identity, spirituality and the darker corners of human psychology. MeK takes those familiar subjects into territory shaped by technology, constructed realities and the uneasy relationship between consciousness and control.

Musically, the track brings those themes into a framework of contemporary heavy metal, industrial textures, electronic programming and atmospheric passages. According to the project's press materials, the arrangement follows the internal confrontation through increasingly intense passages before reaching a final transformation.

Enter the Construct

Beyond the music itself, MeK operates as an ongoing audiovisual concept. The world of MeK // CONSTRUCT introduces a figure known as The Medium, a human conduit connecting the organic world with something artificial and constructed.

The narrative draws upon ideas of alchemical integration, where opposing elements undergo transformation and become part of a larger whole. In “Unawaken,” the conflict between human consciousness and the Construct ultimately leads toward that symbolic union.

The introductory TRANSMISSION campaign traces this progression through eight stages: CONTACT, RECOGNITION, FRACTURE, RESISTANCE, DEVELOPMENT, CONVERGENCE, FINAL APPROACH and, finally, UNAWAKEN.

It's a conceptual approach that gives MeK room to develop its mythology through music, imagery and storytelling as the project continues.

The Musician Behind MeK

Although MeK marks a new creative direction, Faust Perez brings more than 15 years of experience within London's music scene. His background includes work across multiple bands and projects, including his current involvement with metal band Damim and live bass duties for Lowen.

For “Unawaken,” Perez handles the songwriting, composition, guitars, programming, electronics and production, while also sharing lead vocal duties with Felix Lawrie. Additional contributions come from bassist Edd Amos, drummer Damjan Stefanovic and vocalist Mark Antoniades.

The production also brings together some notable talent behind the mixing desk, with Matt Hyde handling the mix, Scott Elliott contributing additional mixing and Joel Wanasek mastering the release.

Caitlin Simone Stokes created and directed the accompanying music video, bringing the first major chapter of MeK // CONSTRUCT into its full audiovisual form.

“Unawaken” Is Out Now

With “Unawaken,” MeK begins laying the groundwork for a larger creative world, combining modern metal's sonic intensity with questions about existence, artificial consciousness and the limits of human understanding.

For listeners drawn to electronically driven metal, industrial atmospheres and conceptual storytelling, MeK offers a new project worth exploring.
