MetalCrawlspace.com - Symphony of Heaven have unveiled their next chapter with “The Ballad of Nicolaus Farel”, a new six-and-a-half-minute slab of melodic blackened death metal arriving this September 4th.

The track marks the band’s first new release since 2024’s Ordo Aurum Archeia and dives deeper into the elaborate pseudo-historical mythology that has increasingly become part of the Symphony of Heaven universe. At the center stands Grandmaster Nicolaus Farel, a figure within the band’s fictional Ordo Aurum mythology whose story now moves into the spotlight.

“Behold, I tell you a mystery; a story unknown by the masses, hidden by the shadows of time. In the annals of history, heroes are not born, they are forged. So tell me, have you heard the ballad of Nicolaus Farel?” - The Redactor

Musically, Symphony of Heaven describes the track as a collision between their American strain of blackened extreme metal and the melodic death metal that erupted from Europe around the turn of the millennium. That means atmosphere and orchestration crashing into the kind of harmonized guitar work, speed and melodic aggression associated with the classic early-2000s melodeath era.

For the new material, the independent band worked with Jeremiah Scott of Southern Oracle Studio, known for his work with Demon Hunter, along with Willie Plischke of Bricktown Studios in Berlin, Germany.

Symphony of Heaven officially begins the rollout today, August 21. Patreon supporters will receive one week of early access beginning August 28, alongside behind-the-scenes material as the band works toward funding its forthcoming full-length album.

The official music video and single will arrive in early September, with an Extended Edition landing through Bandcamp the same day. That expanded version will then hit the major streaming platforms on Friday, September 18.

For Symphony of Heaven, “The Ballad of Nicolaus Farel” operates as opens the door to the next phase of the mythology the band has been constructing around the Ordo Aurum — part concept record, part secret history, wrapped in blackened death metal.

As the band puts it: history is only the beginning.
