Deathrow Bodeen Descends Into Grief, Memory and Heavy Metal on New EP Lost
The Kilgore, Texas metal band turns loss, isolation and the search for direction into five emotionally charged tracks arriving October 9.
There is a particular kind of heaviness that has very little to do with distortion pedals.
Texas metal band Deathrow Bodeen leans directly into that territory on its upcoming five-track EP, Lost, arriving October 9, 2026. Built around themes of grief, memory, isolation and the strange emotional geography people enter when life suddenly changes course, Lost finds the band pairing muscular heavy music with something considerably more personal underneath.
The EP moves through five songs—“Circles,” “Betty,” “Vines,” “Lost” and “Magic Bullet”—with each track representing a different point in what the band describes as an unfiltered emotional journey.
Guitarist and vocalist Michael Lynn Boring II, who co-writes the band’s lyrics and melodies with frontman Jordan, describes the record as an exploration of those unexpected places life can drag us into.
“Lost is about the places we end up when life takes us somewhere we never expected to go,” Boring says.
“These songs deal with different kinds of loss, struggle, and the things we carry with us. We wanted to make something heavy, but we also wanted people to feel something when they listen.”
That distinction sits at the center of the EP. Deathrow Bodeen clearly understands heaviness as more than volume or aggression. The band uses the framework of metal and heavy rock to explore emotions—the memories people carry, the absence left behind after someone disappears from their life and the search for direction when every familiar landmark suddenly seems useless.
Five Tracks Through the Dark
The core of Lost becomes especially clear through “Betty,” a deeply personal song centered around losing someone you love.
That theme expands outward across the EP. Rather than treating grief as a single dramatic moment, Deathrow Bodeen approaches it as something closer to a landscape. You circle familiar pain. You encounter memories. You search for meaning. Eventually, you begin asking where the road goes from here.
The title track captures that final question directly.
“Lost” deals with the search for direction when the path ahead becomes unclear, making the song an appropriate centerpiece for a record built around emotional disorientation.
There is something inherently metal about that concept. Heavy music has always worked particularly well when confronting the parts of human experience that refuse to fit neatly into polite conversation. Anger, grief, death, alienation, uncertainty—metal gives those things amplifiers.
