L.A. Project Ascends with New Heavy Metal Single “The Throne”
Luis Amaro’s long-running metal project returns with a classic heavy metal anthem featuring Jurekk James on vocals and an endorsement from David Ellefson.
Portuguese multi-instrumentalist and composer Luis Amaro has spent decades moving through the heavier corners of rock and metal, and his latest L.A. Project single, “The Throne,” brings that history roaring into the present.
Released independently on September 8, 2026, “The Throne” delivers a focused blast of classic heavy metal built around driving riffs, melodic hooks and the kind of chorus designed to stick after the first spin.
Amaro first emerged within Portugal’s music scene during the 1980s, playing with metal bands including Deadwitch, Exiled and Stone Cold Lips before later joining hard rock outfit CoastWise. During the pandemic, with traditional rehearsals and band activity disrupted, he launched L.A. Project as an instrumental outlet for his songwriting and musical ideas.
As live music and collaboration returned, the project expanded. Amaro began bringing additional musicians into the fold, including vocalists and players from across the international metal scene. Previous L.A. Project recordings have featured musicians such as Rich Gray of Aeon Zen and Annihilator and Fabio Alessandrini of Annihilator and Bonfire.
That revolving creative lineup has allowed L.A. Project to move freely between hard rock, traditional heavy metal and stoner rock across releases including 5 Dimensions, Electric Life and Space Fuzz.
“The Throne” Brings L.A. Project Back to Classic Heavy Metal
On “The Throne,” vocalist Jurekk James — known for Edge Of Attack and his past work with Kobra And The Lotus — gives the song its commanding melodic center. His vocals ride across a muscular rhythm section supplied by bassist Marco Toba and drummer Glenn Welman, while Amaro handles the guitars.
The track lives firmly in the classic metal tradition. The galloping momentum, bright melodic hooks and twin-guitar-era spirit should immediately connect with listeners raised on Iron Maiden, Helloween, Tygers Of Pan Tang and Angel Witch.
Amaro’s guitar work remains one of the track’s strongest weapons. His solos serve the melody rather than burying it beneath technique, bringing flashes of traditional metal grandeur without losing the song’s direct punch.
Former Megadeth and current Metal Church bassist David Ellefson also gave the release a boost, recording a video shout-out supporting “The Throne” and its Spotify release.
Amaro produced the single himself, giving “The Throne” a rugged and muscular sound that keeps the guitars heavy while leaving enough room for its melodic elements to breathe.
L.A. Project has always operated as something of a musical laboratory for Amaro — one central creative vision surrounded by changing musicians, styles and ideas. “The Throne” captures that concept at one of its most immediately accessible points: traditional heavy metal with a modern recording punch and zero hesitation about wearing its influences proudly.
