Rackets and Drapes sign to Roxx Records and Broken Curfew Records

The industrial shock rock veterans return January 29, 2027, with a new five-song EP and a limited-edition CD pressing of just 300 copies.

Rackets and Drapes are preparing their next chapter. Metal Crawlspace can exclusively announce that the gothic industrial shock rock outfit has joined forces with Roxx Records and Broken Curfew Records for the upcoming five-song EP, The Epistles, with a tentative release date of January 29, 2027.

The joint-label partnership will see Roxx Records handle an exclusive, limited-edition physical CD pressing of 300 copies, while Broken Curfew Records will oversee digital distribution and make the EP available through its Bandcamp storefront and streaming platforms.

The arrangement continues an established working relationship between the two independent labels, which have previously collaborated on releases involving artists such as Mohler and Martyr.

The Return of Rackets and Drapes

For those familiar with the darker corners of the late-'90s Christian alternative music scene, Rackets and Drapes should ring a bell.

Emerging during an era when industrial rock and gothic theatrics were tearing through the mainstream, the band carved out its own territory with unsettling imagery, confrontational lyrics, and a sound drawing from industrial metal, gothic rock, and shock rock.

Their 1999 album Candyland introduced listeners to songs such as "Baby Killer," "Love With a Fist," "Bride in Black," and "Burning Your Witches." The record became a distinctive entry in the Christian underground, challenging expectations of what faith-oriented heavy music could sound like and the subjects it could confront.

The band later ventured further into electronic and industrial territory with Love Letters from Hell, originally recorded during the early 2000s.

After years of intermittent activity, Rackets and Drapes have continued bringing material back into circulation, including digital releases of NEGATIV, Love Letters From Hell 2003, and Candyland in 2026.

Now, The Epistles signals another step forward, bringing new material and a renewed partnership with independent labels dedicated to keeping underground heavy music alive.

Faith, Frustration, and Artistic Identity

Rackets and Drapes have long occupied an unusual place within the Christian alternative and industrial music scene. Their theatrical presentation, abrasive sound, and willingness to confront uncomfortable subjects frequently challenged the expectations surrounding faith-based music.

As the band prepares its next chapter, vocalist Kiffany Eden Haase remains candid about the relationship between personal faith, artistic identity, and organized religion.

“R&D was never considered a 'Christian' band because we/I believe there is no such thing,” Haase explains, offering a memorable analogy: “Do 4 christians in a car make it a christian car? NO.”

That philosophy continues to inform the band's creative direction.

“My faith is still in the Creator, Son, and Spirit,”

Haase says.

“Lyrically it's a lot of what people are going through today and it's pretty angry towards this 'church' or whatever it is.”

The band's newer material explores frustration with religious institutions and the intersection of faith and political authority. Haase points specifically to the song “Split the Altar,” which addresses the separation of church and state.

“I don't believe ANY religion should make laws because that doesn't serve the Kingdom of Heaven in any way,”

Haase explains.

“Forced observance isn't true repentance and those who MUST follow are still in the darkness.”

For listeners familiar with the band's earlier work, that willingness to challenge religious convention should sound familiar. Haase recognizes the misunderstandings that have followed Rackets and Drapes over the years.

“I have always been misunderstood so seems I'm still the good ole me setting off the Pharisees,” Haase remarks. “It's just what I do I guess.”

The band's return promises music that reflects contemporary frustrations while maintaining the confrontational artistic identity that first distinguished Rackets and Drapes from their contemporaries.

A New Chapter for Rackets & Drapes

While longtime fans may recognize elements of the band's earlier industrial sound, Haase makes it clear that the new material reflects a different chapter in Rackets and Drapes' history.

“It isn't 1999 anymore and this isn't the R&D you would expect,” Haase explains. “Musically it has the old school feel at times and lyrically it is more thought provoking, exploring different views on the world today.”

That evolution also makes the band's new label partnership particularly significant.

“A very exciting opportunity to be able to be working with Broken Curfew Records because of the reputation and professionalism this band always needed,” Haase adds.

For a band that has spent years challenging expectations, the partnership with Broken Curfew Records and Roxx Records represents another opportunity to introduce Rackets & Drapes to a new generation of listeners while reconnecting with those who remember the band's earlier work.
